Hi,
I have never used an exercise ball. However, i have been hearing that it may prove to be of help during the labor but should be used only if one is already used to it.
I am 29 weeks preg now and am planning to start using it. Can anyone tell me:
- how is it used?
- if there is a brand that is better than the others?
- what size should i go for? (i m 5’4″ and weigh 146 pounds right now)
- what are the benefits during various phases of pregnancy, specially labor?
As a matter of fact, I am using it right now! I am sitting on it in front of my computer!…and I am bouncing up and down… very comfortable. Its the only way I can sit without being in agony because of my back! You dont necessarily need the ball for exercising, I only use it for relaxation.
In labour I will use it when I am tired of walking, I will, like I am doing now, just sit on it, and gently bounce up and down. Another very comfortable position is to stand on your knees and put your elbows on the ball, and then rock back and forth- this relieves my back pain instantly… more than that I dont even try, as my balance is not what its supposed to be!
I dont think brand name matters that much, and as for the size, you just need one that can hold about 150pounds when you sit on it- this should stand on the box.
I dont know the benefits, but I know for sure that it will help me relax!

I have gained about 10 pounds since finding out about my first pregnancy a month ago, and it didn’t help that at the time I had just started a new weight loss program that I had to give up. I am so frustrated with this because I am trying to eat as well as I can but it seems like now more than ever food is always on my mind. I try to remind myself that I need to eat healthy for the baby, but everyone I know didn’t start out their pregnancy overweight, so they don’t have the same body image problem I do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage the weight gain better during the pregnancy or to slow it down so I’m not gaining 8 pounds a month during my pregnancy? I worked really hard to get down to the weight I was at and I am already dreading being back at what I was three years ago when my weight loss odyssey began. I think that maybe if other women give me suggestions I can handle it better and maintain my weight gain better during this time.
I think that focusing on your weight is going to be the problem. Instead, focus on the exercise. Swimming is wonderful for example. Get in to swimming, clocking yourself, seeing how many laps, etc..
Get involved in a program that lets you weigh yourself every week, and has supportive staff.
Get rid of all the junk in the house
ALL OF IT.
so you can’t just grab something easy
don’t pull in to a fast food restaurant…
get rid of the pop
get rid of the juice
keep water on hand at all times
and keep drinking it
it’s good for you and mini.

Hi all,
Am just wondering how fo you do pelvic floor exercises and when should you start doing them when pregnant?
Im 11 wks gone, is it too early?
And also does anyone reccommend any other exercises to do while pregnant to keep in shape?
Thanks in advance
x
Squats are really good to do also. I have a Pilates for Pregnancy DVD and they mix in a lot of good exercises.
A birthing ball is good to exercise and birth with later down the road.
The earlier the better you will need the strength and stamina for labor.

-What exercises do you do?
-How long do you exercise for?
-How many days per week?
-Do you feel or know from past experiences that exercise helps with labor and birthing?
-Do you feel better when you exercise as opposed to when you do not?
-Help motivate me…all I want to do is sleep and puke…
I never had a baby but I live with my sister and she had three. We would go three times a week to a pool in a work out gym and work out for a long time. Its a lot less stress on your body and your babies. I was told by an instructor that water exersice is great for expecting moms. Also she told my sister to do a lot of stretching exercises but don't push yourself if you can only get to your knee so what? This helps your muscles and increase your flexibility. The last thing you'd want giving birth is a pulled muscle to add to the pain. Congradulations! Good Luck! Mozel Tov!
