Anyone used the exercise ball during pregnancy?

Hi,

I have never used an exercise ball. However, i have been hearing that it may prove to be of help during the labor but should be used only if one is already used to it.

I am 29 weeks preg now and am planning to start using it. Can anyone tell me:
- how is it used?
- if there is a brand that is better than the others?
- what size should i go for? (i m 5′4″ and weigh 146 pounds right now)
- what are the benefits during various phases of pregnancy, specially labor?

As a matter of fact, I am using it right now! I am sitting on it in front of my computer!…and I am bouncing up and down… very comfortable. Its the only way I can sit without being in agony because of my back! You dont necessarily need the ball for exercising, I only use it for relaxation.
In labour I will use it when I am tired of walking, I will, like I am doing now, just sit on it, and gently bounce up and down. Another very comfortable position is to stand on your knees and put your elbows on the ball, and then rock back and forth- this relieves my back pain instantly… more than that I dont even try, as my balance is not what its supposed to be!
I dont think brand name matters that much, and as for the size, you just need one that can hold about 150pounds when you sit on it- this should stand on the box.
I dont know the benefits, but I know for sure that it will help me relax!

some women love it! Personally when I was nine months pregnant I wanted nothing to do with it! My back was in enough pain as it is and I the ball made it worse! We tried them in my childbirth class and my instructor told us to sit on it and just rock back and forth. Didn’t help me one bit! But it doesn’t hurt to try, maybe you’ll like it better than I did. Go to a gym and practice on the exercise balls they have and see which size feels comfortable to you. It’s supposed to help relieve pain during contractions.

Excersise one of the most important aspect during the pregnancy. It is not compulsory that you must do it but excersise brings you more relaxation and you must feel good.
You can do it in anywhere at our home and outside also.Every pregnant women must do that for a little in every day.You must feel better from previous days.
    Thanks.

I love the ball. I don’t use it that much for exercise though. I mainly sit on it instead of a chair when at the computer. It keeps my muscles working to hold my body upright and I like the bouncy feeling. Its a nice break from being on a chair all the time

Exercise balls are good. I wouldn’t do anything crazy on them; however, they do make stretching exercises more comfortable.

While others might really not like it or have hard time doing the exercise, depending on the status of their pregnancy, this one’s fairly easy. If one thinks she is going to have a little hard time, a gym particularly holding exercises for pregnant women will be their best option.

Even women not pregnant find Ball exercise the best way to get in shape since you can do different kinds of exercise with the Ball. My wife enjoyed doing some stretching exercise when I bought her a ball 7 months into pregnancy

I’ve heard that by excercising during pregnancy, the birthing process is much easier. I suppose that’s reason enough to excercise.

I believe we should consult the doctor before we take this exercise.

The exercise ball really works on your core. You’ll appreciate a strong core when you go into labor.
