Pelvic floor exercises and other exercises while pregnant?
Hi all,
Am just wondering how fo you do pelvic floor exercises and when should you start doing them when pregnant?
Im 11 wks gone, is it too early?
And also does anyone reccommend any other exercises to do while pregnant to keep in shape?
Thanks in advance
x
Squats are really good to do also. I have a Pilates for Pregnancy DVD and they mix in a lot of good exercises.
A birthing ball is good to exercise and birth with later down the road.
The earlier the better you will need the strength and stamina for labor.

It's never too early to start on the old pelvic floor! The best exercise is simply when you go to the loo for a wee, make yourself stop mid flow by clenching the muscles. do this also when you're not on the toilet. doing this regularly really strengthens the muscles there.
As for other exercises they say continue what you were doing but in moderation. there's some great guidelines for pregnancy and exercise at http://www.babycentre.co.uk

its never too early, apparently you should be doing them every day anyway! I started during early pregnancy as i didnt know that! To do them, pull in the muscles like youre trying to stop yourself passing wind and then hold them and pull in the muscles like youre trying to hold urine in. Hold for as long as u feel comfortable with up to 10 seconds. Repeat 10times. Then do them 10times quickly. I was advised not to do them whilst going for a wee as it can supposedly cause a uti. Yoga, swimming, and a birthing ball are good exercises to do. There may be some pregnancy yoga classes in your area, a nice place to meet other pregnant ladies too!

Tiggy.Twonk is right. It is not a good idea to stop your urine flow frequently, as your bladder may stop emptying properly if you do it too often, leading to infections and bladder dysfunction. However it is a good trick for identifying the right muscles to exercise in the first place.

The use during pregnancy of a ball to adapt exercises to a seated position can also be very beneficial for those who wish to remain active, adding support, comfort and relieving pressure on joints, while still allowing you freedom of movement. Thanks for sharing you………
