Baby Facts You Might Not Know
Almost everybody understands that babies are sweet and cuddly. They get to wear super cute and goofy looking clothes. How many adults do you know that can get away with wearing a clown pattered sweater? Some think that being a baby is super simple. You might be surprised to learn that most people think that babies are already mostly adult except for a few developmental flaws like an inability to speak and a lack of teeth. Babies are actually quite complex creatures who have very specific needs. Here is some (hopefully) new information about babies. Also, remember to study up on ways to stop bedwetting!
Babies are not skilled at telling the difference between most of the colors they see. It takes a while after being born for a baby’s eyes to finish developing and for the synapses from the eyes to the brain to be fully formed. This is why the very best colors that you can use for a baby’s room or toys are bright primary colors. Bold and bright colors like reds and greens and blues or even white and black are the easiest colors for babies to see. It is difficult for a baby to tell the difference between softer or more pastel shades.
Believe it or not, this is why a baby will sometimes favor certain toys. What this means is that all of the black and white stuff that you think of as ugly is actually better for your baby’s eyesight and brain development than the more traditional and popular pastel based decorations and toys.
In spite of taking a few months to start forming words that adults can identify, the range of sounds babies can make is amazing. A baby’s larynx is still being “finished” after he is born, which is why it is so flexible and has such a range. Adult voice boxes have already begun to stiffen up, which is why babies are better at creating new sounds. Babies quickly start to assign the sounds they make to the things that they want or need. This is the way babies teach their parents how to get them what they want-as long as the parents are paying attention they can usually figure it out within a moment or two. Another interesting fact is that most babies’ first words are simple words that involve the consonants and vowels that are made with the front of the mouth. In a baby’s vocabulary “mama” usually comes after “dada” because it is harder for babies to learn how to make the “m” sound.
Even though you want to avoid mercury, you can still have fish-just make sure it is a mercury free species! By now you’ve probably had a bunch of your friends as well as your doctor tell you that you should be eating salmon because it contains a bunch of healthful properties that you and your baby need and it is mercury free. There are those who say that a woman who eats fish regularly during her pregnancy will give birth to babies with better developed brains and a better capacity for communication than babies carried by women who did not eat fish regularly during their pregnancies. This theory is still just that: a theory, so do not beat yourself up for neglecting your baby’s brain if you don’t eat fish, can’t eat fish or simply haven’t eaten that much fish during your pregnancy.
There is lots of baby knowledge out there that is not well known. Oddly, many adults are better able to approach a situation calmly if they have a lot of knowledge on the subject at hand.
Learning everything you can about babies and infant development will help you feel more prepared for parenting. Get started! Lastly, check out this excellent bed wetting information. Highly recommended.
